Today marks the official merger of Weymouth and Kingston Maurward College.

The newly formed college promises to improve educational experiences for students and bring more opportunities for employers across the region.

The union follows extensive talks between the two colleges, the Department for Education, and the Further Education Commissioner.

A public consultation also received a strongly positive response from stakeholders, including students, parents, staff and local communities.

Moving forward, the two campuses will share physical and financial resources, offering an expanded curriculum and courses, better quality of education, and more opportunities for collaboration and innovation.

The newly formed board of governors has announced Kate Wills as interim CEO and principal, overseeing the transition.

Kate, who has more than 20 years of experience in further and higher education, takes over from Julia Howe at Weymouth College and Luke Rake at Kingston Maurward College.

She brings a wealth of knowledge and educational experience, having served as deputy principal at The Cornwall College Group.

“Together we’re stronger, more resilient and better equipped to meet the needs of our students, employers and the local community,” said Kate.

“I’d like to thank all those who have contributed towards the merger for their hard work and unwavering support.

“Their collective efforts have been instrumental in bringing this vision to reality.”

The Kingston Maurward campus will continue to provide land-based courses, including agriculture, animal science and horticulture.

Meanwhile, the Weymouth campus will continue to deliver a range of A-levels, vocational courses and apprenticeships.
