Wimborne will be a buzz of activity in April, as the town holds its annual Discover Wimborne festival.

Starting from the 1st April, more than 100 activities will take place across the town, many of which are free, offering businesses the opportunity to show their stuff.

Wimborne BID (Business Improvement District) manager Tammy Sleet said: “This year’s Discover Wimborne offers a record number of events and activities, testament to the inventiveness and unwavering commitment of businesses to continue to make Wimborne an extraordinary and vibrant place to live and visit.”

She added: “Discover Wimborne is a great opportunity for businesses to showcase what they do, and give customers a fresh experience by providing a special offer, running a competition or holding an event.

The event is open to all businesses, in every sector and every area of town, and we’ve been working closely with each to support anyone that needed a helping hand.”

Activities include a walking tour guided by enigmatic author Malcolm Angel, which will take participants back in time to enjoy tales of smugglers and saints.

Another gives attendees the chance to peek behind the walls of Deans Court to discover the stately home’s grounds and kitchen garden.

Wimborne’s iconic art deco Tivoli theatre will also be opening its doors for a special behind-the-scenes talk by its manager Charlie North-Lewis who will reveal how the theatre was saved and revived.

There are numerous opportunities to enjoy exhibitions and workshops at Walford Mill Crafts Centre and Museum of East Dorset as well as free activities for children throughout the Easter holidays.

If all this doesn’t fill up your diary, there’s competitions and special offers, live music gigs in many of the local pubs, themed food nights, pop-up restaurants, even an April pantomime as Aladdin comes flying in on his magic carpet to find his magic lamp at the Allendale Centre.

And keep your eyes peeled for strange sightings in shop windows! There’s an inventive window trail throughout April with local businesses placing quirky or historical objects in their windows.
