Law firm votes to support Dorset Mind as one of its chosen charities

Staff at Trethowans have chosen Dorset Mind as one of their charities.

The law firm, which has offices in Bournemouth and Poole, will match any funds raised up to a maximum of £15,000 per year.

It will also cover entrance fees up to £75, making it easier for staff to take part in activities and raise more money for the charity.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment, Trethowans is encouraging its employees to raise money through initiatives such as running events, long distance cycling and skydives.

Mike Watson, Managing Partner, pictured left, said: “We are very keen to give back to the local communities we serve in any way that we can.

“We ran a vote amongst all our staff and Dorset Mind received a phenomenal amount of support from our Bournemouth and Poole offices.

“It is a charity providing vital support to the local community and one we are proud to help fundraise for.”

Dr Andy Mayers, Patron for Dorset Mind and Principal Academic at Bournemouth University, pictured right, said “We are truly grateful for Trethowans’ generosity and commitment to supporting us at Dorset Mind.

“Our ambition is to enhance mental health and wellbeing right across Dorset.

“However, we cannot do that without funding.

“We are an independent charity and must generate our own income so that we can provide services.

“This investment from Trethowans will help us meet our ambition.”

Celebrations to mark Independence Day of Ukraine

Fun-filled celebrations take place in Bournemouth today, Saturday, to mark Independence Day of Ukraine.

The event, at Slades Park Pavilion, is from 11am to 4pm.

It is organised by the BCP Hosts and Guests Community with the support of Lush, Ukraine Relief, Dorset Race Equality Council, Polish Market, Food Plus, Dorset Active and many others.

The aim is for the Ukrainians to showcase how they celebrate their Independence Day, including traditional singing, dancing, costumes, children’s activities, sunflowers and Ukrainian food.

The organisers said: “Through the Homes for Ukraine scheme hundreds of Ukrainian refugees now call Dorset their home.

“This is a chance for them to educate us about their special day.”

The BCP Hosts and Guests Community group is a not for profit community group and a member of the Community Action Network.

It was set up to assist with connecting people and community integration.

The official Independence Day of Ukraine was on Wednesday.

Albright IP celebrates triple exam success

Three staff at intellectual property expert Albright IP have chalked up successes in their professional exams.

Both Lauren Fisher and Zainab Rhyman, who are on the pathway towards qualifying as Trade Mark attorneys, scored highly in the 2022 CITMA Paralegal exams.

Lauren, pictured left, attained the highest mark of the cohort, with an impressive 98/100.

The Institute-led CITMA Paralegal course provides extensive grounding in a variety of topics.

They include the technical skills associated with the management of Trade Mark registrations, searches, renewals and maintenance, changes of ownership, oppositions, and cancellations.

It also touches on registered designs and domain names, ensuring that candidates complete the course with a full understanding of professional practice.

At the same time, Joel Weston, pictured left, passed his final CITMA exams with a Distinction.

He’s now a fully qualified Trade Mark Attorney, soon to be Chartered.
