Bournemouth Water has been making a splash at major community events this summer by reducing the reliance on single-use plastics.
The company has provided free drinking water at several high-profile gatherings, including the Bournemouth Reggae Weekender, the British Life Saving Sport Surf Championships, and the Bourne Free Pride Festival.
Thousands of attendees at these events were kept hydrated without the need for single-use plastics, aligning with Bournemouth Water’s environmental goals and its commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.
Richard Stanbrook, Bournemouth Water’s General Manager for Drinking Water Services, highlighted the company’s broader mission:
“What we do is about more than just providing water. It’s about providing a service to the community we live in, so it’s great to be supporting some of our region’s biggest events again this summer.
“We take our responsibilities to reduce the use of single-use plastics seriously, and where there’s an opportunity for us to do that, we will.”
The company also showed its support for the LGBTQIA+ community by participating in the Bourne Free Pride Festival, held in July. This event celebrates diversity and inclusion in the local area and raises awareness of issues affecting these groups.
Sula Kasujja, Operations Director of the Reggae Weekender, expressed her appreciation: “We extend our deepest gratitude to Bournemouth Water for their generous provision of free drinking water at the Bournemouth Reggae Weekender 2024.
“On one of the hottest weekends of the year, this thoughtful contribution was truly appreciated by all attendees. We eagerly anticipate future collaborations with Bournemouth Water.”
Looking ahead, Bournemouth Water will continue its efforts at the New Forest Marathon, where thousands of runners will benefit from the company’s commitment to sustainability.
