Bournemouth Foodbank has joined forces with Bournemouth & Poole College to raise awareness of food poverty and encourage students to support their local community.

This new partnership will run throughout the 2024/25 academic year, aiming to foster a culture of giving and engaging students in meaningful ways to address the issue of food insecurity.

The collaboration will see Bournemouth Foodbank work closely with the college to highlight the growing problem of food poverty in the area.

By running joint campaigns, students and staff will be encouraged to learn more about how they can help.

Information screens around the college campuses will display messages about the foodbank’s work, including ways to donate, volunteer, or access their services.

Donation bins will also be set up at five key locations across both campuses, offering a convenient way for people to contribute non-perishable items.

Welcome Fest engagement

Bournemouth Foodbank also played a significant role at Bournemouth & Poole College’s Welcome Fest, where new and returning students were invited to get involved.

The foodbank’s stand included interactive activities such as a pledge board, where students could show their commitment to ending food poverty, and a selfie booth to spread the message on social media.

The initiative is not just about raising awareness, but also encouraging students to take action. Through these activities, Bournemouth Foodbank hopes to inspire students to contribute in ways that make a real difference to the community.

Strong community support

Bournemouth & Poole College has long been committed to student welfare, and this partnership builds on that ethos.

Pippa Allner, Personal Development Manager at the college, said: “We are thrilled that our students will be able to support Bournemouth Foodbank through our BPC Grow Programme. Rio said: “Partnering with the college allows us to broaden our reach and educate students about the significant challenges many people in our community face. We hope to create lasting change by fostering a culture of compassion and action.”

These will include fundraising efforts, community outreach, and educational campaigns designed to build a stronger and more aware community that stands united against food poverty.
