Eighty new  jobs have been created with the opening of a new B&M store in Weymouth today.

The 21,471 sq ft store on the multi-million pound Weymouth Gateway retail park joins more than 700 other B&M outlets across the UK.

It will offer a wide variety of branded groceries including food, health and beauty, cleaning, pet food, gifts, seasonal products, DIY essentials, homeware, electricals, toys, games and gifts.

As a designated Home Store with Garden Centre, it is also selling furniture and soft furnishings, paint, wallpaper, flooring products and garden plants and products.

Weymouth team members were asked to nominate a charity to take centre stage and officially unveil the new store.

They chose DEBRA – The Butterfly Skin Charity.

The national charity acts as a patient support group for people living with the rare, extremely painful, genetic skin blistering condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) also known as ‘Butterfly Skin’.

EB causes the skin to become very fragile and tear or blister at the slightest touch.

DEBRA UK supports more than 3,000 members, including people living with EB, relatives, partners, or carers of someone with EB, healthcare professionals and researchers who work with EB.

Sam Chappell, Store Manager at B&M Weymouth, said: “DEBRA – The Butterfly Skin Charity really stood out for us.

“We wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work that they have done.

“We hope that our donations can help them to continue the great work.

“Our colleagues have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day.

“We’re all really excited to welcome our customers through the doors.”

B&M started with one store, in Blackpool, in 1978.

It now employs 35,000+ staff and attracts over four million happy customers through its doors every week.

Earlier this month homeware retailer Denelm opened its new 30,000 sq ft store on the Gateway retail park at 8 Souter Way.
