A former student who is now a Visiting Professor at AECC University College and Secretary-General of the World Federation of Chiropractic is returning to Dorset to launch a new lecture series.

The University College is inviting students, staff, alumni and members of the public to attend the evening lecture by Professor Richard Brown on Thursday May 23.

It will be held at the Parkwood Campus in Parkwood Road, Bournemouth, beginning at 6.30pm with refreshments followed by the lecture at 7pm and lasting for an hour.

There will be an opportunity for Q&A/discussion after the lecture.

Professor Brown will explore the benefits of evidence-based, people-centred, interprofessional and collaborative health care to patients, particularly within the context of treating low back pain, frequently cited as the greatest cause of years lived with disability globally.

His lecture will launch the University College’s Professorial Inaugural Lecture Series.

The series will provide an opportunity both for AECC UC’s professors to inspire audiences with their career insights and/or research and for audiences to influence future research and professional developments.

AECC UC says it is committed to contributing to society through public engagement activities in which knowledge, resources and skills is shared with the public.

The University College says it will listen and learn from the different communities with which it engages.

During the event, Professor Kevin McGhee, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of AECC UC, will formally sign the National Co-ordinating Centre for Public Engagement (NCCPE) Manifesto for Public Engagement.

This will publicly affirm, celebrate and support AECC UC’s public engagement activities and commitment.

Professor Lesley Haig, Vice-Chancellor, said: “We are delighted to be launching our Professorial Inaugural Lecture Series here at AECC University College and Professor Richard Brown is the ideal person to deliver our first lecture.

“The session promises to be thought-provoking and will no doubt be of interest to members of the public, as well as staff and students of AECC UC.

“As a specialist health sciences university, we are eager to develop and nurture our relationships within the local community.

“We are proud to be situated in Boscombe and we are committed to making educational opportunities and high-quality public talks accessible to our local community.

“Signing the NCCPE Manifesto is an important milestone in this commitment.”

Professor Brown said: “I am honoured to be the inaugural speaker at this series of professorial lectures.

“AECC University College is an institution that is dear to my heart and it’s always a pleasure to return.”
