Custom House Quay in Weymouth was buzzing with excitement last week as the EBIKE Cafe hosted their charity quiz night in support of Weldmar Hospicecare.

80 participants showed up to compete, tackling tough questions from ‘Lord of Quizzing’ James O’Neill – whose day job is as marketing and communications lead at Weldmar.

Josephine Parker, co-owner of EBIKE Café, said: “What a night! We anticipated a good turnout, but the enthusiasm and energy surpassed all expectations.

“It was heartwarming to see our customers come together for such a fun-filled evening in support of Weldmar Hospicecare.

“Weldmar holds a special place in my heart. They looked after my Mum during her short illness at their hospice and at home with their at-home nursing team.

“I’ll never forget the kindness, compassion and care they gave and showed her.”

In the end it was The A-Team who emerged victorious, generously choosing to donate their £50 winnings directly to Weldmar.

Along with proceeds from ticket sales, the raffle and a share of the bar take, the teams raised a total of £1,010 for the charity.

Quizmaster James said: “Well done to Josephine and the team at EBIKE Cafe for putting on such a great evening to support Weldmar.

“There was a really fun atmosphere all evening, and I really enjoyed returning to the role of quizmaster – there was plenty of audience participation along the way!

“Thanks to all those who came along, because every person contributed towards a wonderful total to donate to Weldmar, which will help provide specialist end of life care for both those with a life limiting illness and their loved ones.”

EBIKE Cafe and its customers have raised thousands of pounds for Weldmar, their charitable partner, over the past couple of years.

Customers can donate daily with the cafe’s popular Weldmarccino – a twist on the cappuccino which puts 10p per purchase towards the charity.

Fiona Hansford, fundraising lead – recruitment & engagement at Weldmar, added: “We’re delighted to have been supported by EBIKE Cafe’s quiz last night – what a brilliant turnout for a fantastic cause!

“A huge thank you to Josephine and the team for all their hard work on this event and to the winning team, The A-Team, who very kindly donated their cash prize.

“We’re thrilled to continue the partnership with EBIKE Cafe into the rest of the year, with lots more exciting events and activities planned together.”

EBIKE Cafe is open from 9am daily at Weymouth’s Custom House Quay.

As well as serving up food and drinks, it’s also home to the SPECIALIZED ebike brand.
