Poole-based DDC Dolphin helps hospitals go green with ISO 14001 certification

DDC Dolphin, a Poole-based specialist in infection prevention and control, has secured the ISO 14001 accreditation, strengthening its role in helping hospitals and care homes hit their sustainability targets.

The company designs and manufactures products such as medical pulp macerators, bedpan washer disinfectors, and sluice room consumables, all aimed at improving hygiene and infection control in healthcare settings.

Now, with ISO 14001 under its belt, DDC Dolphin is better equipped to support these facilities in meeting their environmental goals.

The international ISO 14001 standard, widely used for environmental management, supports businesses in reducing waste and using resources more efficiently. It covers everything from planning and target-setting to training and performance review.

Zoe Allen, Marketing and HR Director at DDC Dolphin, said the certification aligns perfectly with the NHS’s net zero goals: “The NHS aims for net zero by 2040 for direct emissions, and by 2045 for those it influences through its supply chain. As part of that supply chain, we’re fully committed to helping the NHS – and care homes – achieve these goals.”

Key benefits of DDC Dolphin’s ISO 14001 implementation include minimising waste, promoting sustainable practices, and increasing stakeholder confidence. It also builds on the company’s commitment to continuous environmental improvement.

The certification comes just a year after DDC Dolphin moved into its new 2,177 sq m Dorset headquarters, which is fitted with environmentally friendly features such as rooftop solar panels, energy-saving insulation, and motion-controlled lighting.

These measures have already reduced energy consumption for heating, cooling, and lighting, furthering the company’s green credentials.

The new facility also caters to staff wellbeing, with amenities like showers for cyclists, encouraging active travel to work, and accessible facilities for disabled people.
