A world leader in underwater acoustic and ultrasonic technologies has struck gold at a manufacturing awards ceremony.

Precision Acoustics was joint winner of the Innovation Award at the South regional dinner of Make UK, the manufacturers’ association.

The Dorchester-based company manufactures acoustic measurement products for the medical and NDT (non-destructive testing) industries.

It was praised for its ability to solve complex challenges and the speed at which new products entered the market.

The judges said: “Precision Acoustics are an excellent example of innovation.

“The company clearly know their market and, as leader in their field, they have continued to develop solutions to meet their customers’ needs.

“Even when operating in a challenging economic environment this organisation’s product development is already yielding a commercial return.

“Innovation is really at the heart of everything they do.”

The award was presented at a ceremony in Bristol organised by Make UK and sponsored by legal firm Bevan Brittan.

Achievements of manufacturing companies from across the South were recognised.

The winners, including Precision Acoustics, now go through to the national finals which will be held in London in January.

Gary Livingstone, Managing Director, Precision Acoustics, said: “We’re delighted to have won the Innovation award at the Make UK regional dinner, it’s a fantastic achievement.

“We have an amazing team at Precision Acoustics and it was a great night to celebrate just how far the team has come.”

Jim Davison, Region Director for Make UK in the South, said: “These awards are a testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing.

“The sector remains at the heart of the South creating wealth and, as we re-build our economy, there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent.”

The innovation award was sponsored by Isoclad.
