Yellow Buses introduces defibrillators at its sites

Yellow Buses has installed two public access defibrillators at its Bournemouth sites.

One is at the bus operator’s Yeomans Way depot and the other at its town centre facility where the control room and drivers’ restroom are located.

They have been introduced in partnership with the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT).

The trust provided the equipment and training for Yellow Buses staff.

The defibrillators are located externally at both sites so they can be used by the public to save lives.

David Squire, Managing Director, said: “Whilst we hope that they never need to be used, it is important to preserve life until the healthcare professionals are able to reach the scene.

“As a responsible local employer we are totally committed to both our colleagues and local communities.”

Kate Fisher, SWASFT Assistant Community Responder Officer, Dorset, with Paul Robinson and Vincent Vinter from Yellow Buses, alongside one of the defibrillator units at the Yeomans Way depot in Bournemouth.

Vicki Howard, Head of Volunteering and Community Services at SWASFT, said: “Public access defibrillators, like the ones installed by Yellow Buses, can mean the difference between life and death for a person during a cardiac arrest.

“The quicker a defibrillator is used, the higher the chances of survival are.

“We would like to offer our thanks to David and the Yellow Buses team for installing the defibrillators to support their local community.

“If any other organisation or community group wants to follow Yellow Buses and install a public access defibrillators, then they can do so by contacting SWASFT via [email protected].”

‘Elephant in the room’ confronted in storytelling show

A one woman show described as confronting the ‘elephant in the room’ – death – with grace and humour is coming to Dorset later this month.

Outside the Box: A Live Show about Death is taking place at Preston Village Hall on Wednesday May 25, 7pm, and is followed by a Q&A.

Themes touched on during the 55-minute storytelling show by Liz Rothschild include how our society handles death and dying, talking or not talking about death, funerals and the full range of options available, involvement of children, preparing for end of life, funeral poverty and comparisons with other countries.

Liz draws on decades of experience as a celebrant and burial ground manager.

The show is sponsored by Weymouth-based The Death Planner.

Owner Kristie Scott, pictured left, who was featured on Dorset Biz News last October, said: “It’s an opportunity I couldn’t resist to provide a unique insight into ‘the elephant in the room’ and the importance of preparing for the end of life.”

Tickets for Outside the Box, price £9, can be purchased here.
