A 101-year-old Bournemouth resident took centre stage as she officially opened the revamped Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care in Westbourne.
Kathleen Hardy performed the honours at the Poole Road branch, which now boasts two new optical and hearing screening rooms, increasing the total to three.
The store also features a larger selection of designer frames. Kathleen received flowers to celebrate the occasion and acknowledge her loyal patronage.
Branch manager Linda Langton said: “We have invested in the store and wanted to mark its upgrade in style. Kathleen has entrusted her eye and hearing care to us for many, many years.
“At 101 years old she is an inspiration to all of us with her positive and fun attitude to life. She still lives independently and is always smiling when she visits the team.”
Kathleen, who previously worked in the war office, married professional footballer and Bournemouth player Bob Hardy.
They were together for over 40 years before he passed away in his 60s. They had a son, Andrew, who is now in his mid-70s. Kathleen attributes her longevity to a nightly whisky.
She said: “Being involved in the official reopening was a really special occasion, and I enjoyed every minute. It was the highlight of my week!
“The store looks fantastic and I wish the team continued success. I’ve been going to Scrivens for more years than I can remember for both my eye and latterly my hearing care and always received excellent service.”
Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, a family-run business established in 1938, has 168 high-street stores across England and Wales, employing 1,000 people. For more information, visit www.scrivens.com.
